Presentation :: The high competition Funboard returns to Portugal !

The IFCA Windsurfing World Championships 2004, in its most spectacular side - the Wave Performance, returns to Portugal. It’s also the return of Funboard to great competition. This Event, top of the modality’s hierarchy, represents the concentration of the best sailors at a global scale credited by IFCA [International Funboard Class Association] - worldwide authority for the modality.

The spot chosen for the Championships, which will happen between the 22nd and the 26th of August 2004, was Guincho Beach, place where the waves and the wind co-habit in an harmonious way, providing amazing conditions to the practice of sports.

With effect, Guincho is in fact a mythic place for the Funboard world… and Bruno de Wannamaeker - President of IFCA - will agree with that !

Invited by Overpower Club and Casino do Estoril, Bruno visited Portugal, in August, for the final appreciation of our country’s candidacy to the organization of the Event and he was, positively, surprised with the conditions he found in our country.

When the entire Europe was going through the deepest meteorological crisis, with soft waves and winds too weak for Funboard, there it was Guincho, functioning perfectly !

IFCA, for the organization of these Championships, demands the organizers to present spots with safe meteorological conditions, so it can guarantee a good sportive and spectacle level. If we consider the excellent wind conditions of Guincho and the curriculum of the spot, then the success of the Championship is guaranteed.

The Windsurfing World Championships 2004 will be raced in the Wave Performance discipline, a competition which develops a bit to the image of surf, with the plus that you can observe bold manoeuvres and complicated jumps executed above the wave levels, of course, in an extreme conditions environment.

In the eliminatory duels, the technical level imposed to competitors and equipment is so high, that awakes in the audience and in the media present in the Championships, moments of great emotion and spectacle, providing images of rare beauty, reason why the sport is able to get a very special attention from the media all over the world.

In the race to the organization of this great IFCA Event, several countries with strong arguments were present. However, the Portuguese candidacy ended up winning, thanks to the Portuguese organizational experience, and to the excellent commitment from Local Entities, such as: The Estoril Coast Tourism, the Estoril’s Hotels Association and the City Council of Cascais, who gave their all to make this Championship a reality in our country.

The organization of the IFCA Windsurfing World Championships will be done by Overpower Club, by IFCA [International Funboard Class Association] and ISAF [International Sailing Federation] delegation which, with an appreciative and reliable posture by the work previously done by this Club, delivered in its hands his Grandest Event.

The national and international communication plan is foreseen for the beginning of the month of December, with a presentation of the Event and its most important interveners, with date and place to be announced, in the Lisboa-Cascais axle.

Apresentação :: O Funboard de alta competição regressa a Portugal !!!

O IFCA Campeonato do Mundo de Windsurfing 2004 na sua vertente mais espectacular – a Wave Performance, regressa a Portugal. É, também, o regresso do Funboard à grande competição. Esta Prova, topo na hierarquia da modalidade representa a concentração dos melhores velejadores à escala global creditados pela IFCA [International Funboard Class Association] – autoridade mundial para a modalidade.

O local escolhido para a realização do Campeonato, que decorre entre 22 e 26 de Agosto de 2004, foi a Praia do Guincho, sitio onde as ondas e o vento coabitam de forma harmoniosa, proporcionando condições de eleição para a prática do desporto.

Com efeito o Guincho é de facto um lugar mítico para o mundo do Funboard… que o diga Bruno De Wannemaeker - Presidente da IFCA !!!

A convite do Overpower Club e do Casino do Estoril, Bruno visitou Portugal, em Agosto, para a apreciação final da candidatura do nosso País à organização do Evento e ficou, positivamente, surpreendido com as condições que encontrou no local.

Quando toda a Europa atravessava a mais profunda crise meteorológica, com ondas moles e ventos demasiados fracos para a prática do Funboard, ali estava o Guincho a funcionar na perfeição !!!

A IFCA, para a organização destes Campeonato, exige aos organizadores a apresentação de spots com condições meteorológicas seguras, de forma a garantir um bom nível desportivo e de espectáculo. Se tivermos em conta as excelentes condições de vento no Guincho, e o curriculum do spot, então teremos garantido o sucesso do Campeonato.

Os Campeonatos do Mundo de Windsurfing 2004 serão corridos na disciplina Wave Performance, uma competição que se desenrola um pouco à imagem do surf, com a mais valia de se poderem observar arrojadas manobras e complicados saltos executados acima do nível das ondas, claro está, num ambiente de condições extremas.

Nos duelos eliminatórios o nível técnico imposto a competidores e equipamento é tão elevado que faz despertar, no público e media presentes nos Campeonatos, momentos de elevada emoção e espectáculo, proporcionando imagens de rara beleza, razão pela qual o desporto consegue uma atenção muito especial por parte da comunicação social de todo o mundo.

Na corrida à organização deste grande Evento IFCA, vários países com fortes argumentos estiveram presentes. No entanto, a candidatura portuguesa acabou ganhadora, graças à experiência organizativa de Portugal e, ao excelente empenho de Entidades Locais como: o Turismo da Costa do Estoril, a Associação de Hoteleiros do Estoril e a Câmara Municipal de Cascais, que deram tudo por tudo para tornar possível a vinda do Campeonato no nosso País.

A organização do IFCA Campeonato do Mundo de Windsurfing 2004 está a cargo do Overpower Club, por delegação da IFCA [International Funboard Class Association] e da ISAF [International Sailing Federation] que, numa postura de confiança e apreço pelo trabalho anteriormente desenvolvido por este Clube, entregou nas suas mão o seu Evento Maior.

O plano de comunicação nacional e internacional está previsto para o início do próximo mês de Dezembro, com uma apresentação do Evento e dos seus mais importantes intervenientes, em data e lugar a anunciar, no eixo Lisboa-Cascais.
