The International Funboard Class Association is very pleased to return to Portugal, Guincho, for the World Championships FreeWave 2004.

In 2000, the IFCA World Wave Championships were organised for the first time in Portugal. This was the first time that one of the international windsurf classes put their trust and a major event in the hands of Overpower. They did not let us down. It was perfect.

Of course, this was no coincidence. The Club organized the 1st Overpower Regatta in 1984 and since then established a record of very good organised events. Last year’s European Championship Formula Experience and the European Championships Formula Windsurfing in 2002 confirmed the capability of Overpower as one of the best organisers of very big windsurf events.

The new formula of FreeWave, agreed by the IFCA Annual General Meeting and confirmed by the ISAF Windsurfing Comity will have its first big test in Guincho. The combination of a Wave and Freestyle World Championship in a one-discipline event reflects what has been happening in a lot of countries on national level.
